BioBuilder Idea Accelerator:

BioBuilder will lead middle school and high school students through a framework for project development, providing 6 hours of online learning, feedback on project ideas, and assistance in the design process. The Idea Accelerator will culminate with an online showcase, an opportunity for students to document their work in BioBuilder’s Project Library, and an invitation to apply for support for implementation of the project idea during the 2020-2021 academic year.

This will provide an online guided learning community for teams of students who want to design biotechnologies that might change the world. Past project ideas have included a biosensor to detect vaping in school bathrooms, a modified kombucha scoby that smells sweet, and a living therapy to combat lactose intolerance. If you have an idea for a biotechnology, BioBuilder’s Idea Accelerator will cover some of the science and engineering that could bring it to life. 

OF INTEREST TO: 

• Middle School or High School Students with a working knowledge of DNA and cells and an interest in biotechnology
• Life Science Teachers eager to enrich their online classes with project-based learning
• Homeschooling Parents who would like to connect with other learning communities

Registration of teams: You may choose to join the live sessions for an interactive experience or select the recorded sessions, if you prefer to watch the recordings and use the material on your own time. You can register as either an individual or a team:

• Individual students can join related project teams. 
• Large classes can participate as topic-oriented groups of 5-10 students. A teacher may register for themself and up to 10 students at a time (a student full name and email is required at the time of registration).

Connection details: Zoom login instructions will be emailed to live session attendees prior to the session. 

Our Idea Accelerator will be capped at 96 students or 10 teams. Once the live session space is full, ongoing registrations will go to a wait list. All waitlist participants will be provided with the video recordings and materials as well.
