Summary

Workshop title: Genes in Space @ BioBuilder

This full-day workshop will introduce educators to Genes in Space and the ideas of synthetic biology. Genes in Space is a free science contest that challenges students to design DNA experiments for space. In this workshop we will explore biotechnology and synthetic biology, techniques that may serve as foundations for Genes in Space project development. Participants will also gain hands-on experience in the laboratory exploring BioBuilder’s Golden Bread experiment and being trained on miniPCR equipment. Educators will leave with the tools to bring Genes in Space into their classroom, an appreciation for biodesign, and the skills to bring biotechnology and synthetic biology back to their students.

The workshop for up to 20 educators will be held at BioBuilder's Learning Lab inside LabCentral on January 11, 2019 from 9AM to 4PM.

BioBuilder and miniPCR instructors will deliver the content. Lunch will be provided. A $35 materials fee is required per participant, payable at the time of registration. Need-based scholarships available upon request (genesinspace@minipcr.com).

A portion of the class will be held in the laboratory so participants should wear close-toed shoes. If possible, participants should bring a laptop and arrive 15 minutes early to check in.
Event Registration is closed.
